Como Un Animal (Like an Animal) is a re-imagining of the stripper anthem: Closer by Nine Inch Nails.
“My personal journey of freeing my erotic nature has been a lifelong commitment since before I had the vocabulary. The more I reclaim my right to exist freely and autonomously in my body, the more liberated I feel in expression at large. Owning my voice and integrating my wholeness as a sexual, intellectual, multi-passionate woman has inspired me to step firmly towards dreams I previously felt were beyond reach. One of those dreams has been to make music exactly like this.
In all my art, I seek to channel and liberate the erotic, provocative, and raw within. I love to create from this part of myself.
I’ve always respected the original version of this song: Closer by Nine Inch Nails. Its so intense, vulnerable, and yes, sexy.Trent Reznor is a lyrical genius who is responsible for some of my favorite lines of all time.
I had the idea to create a cover of because when I would sing this song aloud, I would change the lyrics to reflect my desire to evoke the image of being ravished that I love to fantasize about. It started with: “Want you to fuck me like an animal” as compared to the original lyric “I want to fuck you like an animal”.
Upon arrival in Puerto Rico I was eager to make music and teamed up with Beatmaker, Isai. As we were listening through some beats without any particular project in mind, this beat leapt out at me and I could hear the track in my mind as if it were already finished.
Inspired by my time in Puerto Rico and connecting to my roots on la isla del encanto, I decided to deliver the second verse in Spanish. We recorded in Viejo San Juan- the whole experience was surreal.
We took the lyrics literally and filmed the music video embodying our wildness in the rainforest of El Yunque. Stay tuned for the uncensored and censored versions of the video dropping soon!”
