Sexy Dance Wear & Lingerie: Local, Women, Bipoc, LGbQT owned & Sex worker inclusive / by alyssa aparicio

One question I get A LOT is where I buy my sexy dance wear and lingerie. I’ve been promising to compile a list of my favorites forever and alas I’ve finally done it!

The criteria I aim for when I shop in general includes as many of the following modifiers as possible: women, BIPOC, and/or LGBQTIA owned small businesses. I look for clothing that is ethically made and/or environmentally friendly whenever possible.

I also look for sex worker inclusive brands that celebrate the individuals out there being sexy for a living. Because if you’re selling sexy wear and you’re not inclusive… I recommend you f*ck off :)

All of the following brands are also local to LA, or the Bay Area at the furthest, which is a major plus for me as well.

Here are 5 brands you can feel good about giving your money to and great about how you’re gonna look when you adorn your pretty ass with these gorgeous threads! They are mostly illustrated by pieces I have danced in and own for reference.

Ghetto Stiletto Apparel:

Each of us has an inner lion/ess desiring to be set free. Apollo Sa’Deek, aka Mr. Ghetto Stiletto, is really good at helping you unleash yours. He has created a line for all body types, genders, and flavor of sex appeal. As a Black, gay man who was one of the original heels teachers in Hollywood, well before Yanis Marshall and before every studio had a heels class on their schedule, Apollo continues to bring the authentic movement of the strip clubs and the ratchet magic of his hometown of Tampa, to LA.

He has always created an inclusive, sex positive, sex worker friendly space in his classrooms and beyond- where all identities are welcome. And as an Official Ghetto Stiletto Girl for the last 10 years, I can attest to the way all things Ghetto Stiletto infuse my life with confidence and feelin’ myself.

Twisted Movement

Nadia Sharif is an all around badass of Mexican-Pakastani descent. She is a pole dance extraordinaire, pole engineer and Founder of Twisted Movement dance wear. She continues to speak out, using her voice to advocate for sex workers and other marginalized communities. You may remember her viral video about why use of the word “exotic” is problematic. Each outfit she designs is original AF and custom made in Los Angeles.

Hear more about Nadia’s story and what she stands for via our conversation via Pussy Empowered Podcast: “The Heat Don’t Feel Like Nothin’ When You’re On Fire”.

Slay Essentials:

This is a new favorite of mine which supplied my look for my recent Clean My Plate & WAP WAP WAP videos. This woman owned business makes custom, handmade pieces out of LA.

The Founder was previously an entertainer herself and using her own experience, she creates looks for dancers who want to stand out at the club and beyond. Her motto being “When you look like money, you make more money.”

Slay Essentials has pieces for both male and female in sizes XS to XL. However most pieces are 1 of 1 because the fabric she uses are limited and often not restocked. I love that I get to own a unique piece that only small number of people get to have.

The materials feel so good against the skin and the fit is super sexy.

DancePhreakz:

Dance Phreakz is a Nigerian-American woman owned business based in Los Angeles. The CEO & Founder, Erika Ames, is dedicated to uplifting the dance community through shows like Polephreakz, where I’ll be performing live on July 24th! They are also responsible for the showcase “When Worlds Collide”, Conversations with Impact, and are soon to release a podcast that explored themes relevant to professional dancers and dance lovers.

I have yet to own a piece from DancePhreakz, but I have my eyes all over their new collection, which is about to drop on July 4th. Thus, Bambi is modeling the above outfit which can also be seen in the “Clean My Plate” video as well.
